Strode's Cottages
1920s

In 1911, 63-year-old William Strode, the oldest porter at the station, was killed by a fast goods train as he crossed the tracks to look after the arrival of a passenger train. Although not mentioned at the inquest, it is possible he could have used the recently constructed subway, still in use today.
