The London and Southampton Railway was first proposed in 1831 and the bill approved by Parliament in 1834 at a cost of £900,000. The section between Basingstoke and Winchester opened on 11 May 1840 – and was the final part of the London and Southampton Railway to be completed. Prior to its construction, all of the traffic between London and Southampton was carried by eight stage coaches, four wagons per week, and one barge weekly on the Basingstoke Canal!

Absolutely no knowledge or experience is necessary – if you enjoy drinking wine you’ll enjoy coming to our wine circle!

Contact information
We are a friendly group of villagers who like to gather together a few times a year to taste, discuss and enjoy wines from around the world whilst socialising with our neighbours. Absolutely no knowledge or experience is necessary – if you enjoy drinking wine you’ll enjoy coming to our wine circle!
Most of our events are held in the Northbrook Village Hall where usually an independent wine merchant brings 6 wines for us to taste. Cheese and crackers with other nibbles are provided whilst sampling the wines and learning more about them. The cost is £15 per head though the Summer and Christmas parties generally cost a little bit extra.
If you’d like to know more or would like to come along to an event to test the waters then please or text . There is no membership requirement so why not give it a try?
Meetings are held on Fridays at Northbrook Hall at 8 pm except for Summer & Xmas party
