The London and Southampton Railway was first proposed in 1831 and the bill approved by Parliament in 1834 at a cost of £900,000. The section between Basingstoke and Winchester opened on 11 May 1840 – and was the final part of the London and Southampton Railway to be completed. Prior to its construction, all of the traffic between London and Southampton was carried by eight stage coaches, four wagons per week, and one barge weekly on the Basingstoke Canal!

Allotments have proved to be very popular in the last few years as the enthusiasm to "Grow your Own" has greatly increased - yes, your home grown vegetables do taste better and there is a great satisfaction when harvest arrives!
The Summer of 2020 was difficult for all of us but the allotments proved to be a safe haven to meet like-minded allotmenteers - Socially Distanced of course!
Ernie Hobbs one of our Local Characters has a bench for tired gardeners to relax on situated on the path through the Allotment area.
Currently we are full but we can build a waiting list. Preference is given to people within the parish, if there is no interest or they become empty for long periods then it can be from further afield.
